Role Summary

We are seeking a dedicated Aquaculture Engineer with expertise in the cultivation and management of algae and floating plants to oversee the upstream operations of our production process. The ideal candidate will manage the growth, maintenance, harvesting, drying, and grinding of biomass, ensuring optimal quality for downstream protein extraction. This role is crucial for achieving sustainable and efficient raw material production that aligns with AlProtein’s mission of delivering cutting-edge, sustainable protein solutions.

Key Responsibilities

As an Aquaculture Engineer, you will be assigned to a wide range of responsibilities, which include:

1. Cultivation Management

  • Oversee and manage the cultivation protocols tailored to the specific needs of spirulina and water lentils.
  • Ensure that the cultivation environments are maintained at ideal conditions for optimal growth.
  • Monitor the health of spirulina and water lentils, identifying signs of stress or disease.
  • Monitor and adjust environmental parameters such as light, temperature, pH, and nutrient levels.
 

2. Harvesting Operations

  • Develop and adhere to a harvesting schedule that maximizes yield and maintains the quality of the biomass.
  • Implement and refine harvesting techniques to ensure efficient collection with minimal loss and contamination.
  • Oversee the drying and grinding processes, ensuring the biomass is processed under optimal conditions.
  • Ensure harvested biomass is stored correctly to maintain quality and prevent spoilage.
 

3. Process Maintenance

  • Conduct routine inspections of cultivation systems, addressing issues promptly to minimize downtime.
  • Regularly inspect and maintain equipment to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any growth environment challenges effectively
 

4. Team Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with the cultivation and cross-functional teams to support seamless operations.
  • Mentor and train junior staff and technicians, fostering continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Promote a safe working environment, adhering to safety protocols and regulatory standards.
 

Qualifications

  • Education:
    • Bachelors/Master’s degree in Aquaculture, Agronomy, Biotechnology or related fields.
    • Advanced knowledge of Aqua culturing and upstream processing techniques is essential.
  • Experience:
    • At least 3+ years of experience in algae or aquatic plant cultivation, with a strong understanding of growth requirements.
    • Hands-on expertise in using aquaculture machinery and cultivation systems.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in environmental monitoring and adjusting key parameters like light, temperature, pH, and nutrient levels.
    • Analytical skills for diagnosing and resolving cultivation challenges effectively.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on innovation and adaptability.
    • Strong leadership and project management and organizational abilities to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
    • Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with multidisciplinary teams.
